WWII American PDWs

M1 and Thompson
M1 Carbine and Thompson submachine gun

Hello Liberty Carriers, Jeremy here talking to you about firearms history. I am a WWII reenactor, performing this past August at D-Day Conneaut, the largest annual D-Day reenactment in the U.S.

I hail from the great state of Michigan and we take pride in our contribution to the Arsenal of Democracy. Detroit was a manufacturing industrial center in the 1940’s and ’50s, sadly today manufacturing and good jobs are gone, people fled to the suburbs or went elsewhere.

Most troops had only their standard issue M1 Garand or M1903 Springfield rifle available to them due to the lack of readiness of the American military. These were good weapons, but they were large and heavy, making them cumbersome for some jobs in the military.

The war department recognized this, and they immediately sought more portable weapons, especially tank and vehicle crews and paratroopers.

Believe it or not, during the war General Motors had a division that was designated as Inland Manufacturing that produced firearms!

They produced the M1 carbine, which had been finalized in October of 1941, only two months before the American entry into the war. The carbine fires an intermediate .30 caliber cartridge and in many eyes was actually the first personal defense weapon (PDW) that our troops used due to the development of a select fire variant that could fire automatically when the trigger was held down!

Inland mass-produced millions of carbines, earning profits while supporting the war effort. Production costs fell from the start of mass production in 1942 and ending in 1945, a testament to capitalism.

In total, Inland contributed the following to the war effort: (1,984,189) M-1 Carbines, (140,000) M1A1 Carbines, (500,00) M2 Carbines, and (811) M3(T3) Carbines.

There were other weapons that played similar roles and were compact in size compared to full-sized rifles. There were several different versions of  submachine guns (SMG) that were issued during the war including the Thompson, M3 grease gun, and the M50/55 Reising. SMGs are weapons that use pistol caliber cartridges and can fire automatically.

The most used SMG during the war was the Thompson but due to the high cost of the weapon, the M3 “grease gun” was produced as a cheaper alternative that was easier to mass produce. The M50/55 Reising was another alternative to the Thompson that was heavily used by the marine raiders in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor raid. All three weapons were loved by the troops and were used throughout the war.

Soldiers also carried sidearms, the most compact weapon, operated by one hand, but only effective at close ranges. One of the most famous pistols of all-time was the American standard issue Colt M1911. Although contrary to popular belief, this was not the only pistol that was utilized by our troops. Many soldiers and Office of Strategic Services (OSS) agents preferred the M1917 revolver or the Colt Official Police to the 1911 because of their compact size and reliability. The most popular pistol cartridge of issue during the war was the .45 ACP although some soldiers did utilize .38 special.

I hope everyone has enjoyed this throwback to WWII weaponry. Stay safe out there everyone and remember to carry Liberty Carry style!

Yellow Journalism Against Liberty

The stories we see in the “mainstream media” remind me of yellow journalism when newspapers were popular and practiced attention grabbing headlines in order to increase newspaper sales, whether or not they were true. The USS Maine exploded in Havana Harbor in 1889, was this an accident when the coal stores exploded, or was this the result of an attack by an explosive device?

Infamous examples of yellow journalism were two competing newspaper front page headlines between the New York World and the New York Journal, designed to sway public opinion in favor of war with Spain. One emphasized the explosion was the fault of an enemy, while the other emphasized this was caused by a bomb or torpedo with an illustration of the USS Maine exploding and sailors bodies flying through the air. Unfortunately, this type of journalism continues today, reporting what fits the “mainstream media” narrative instead of true facts.

Businesses are burned down, property stolen, people are assaulted, traffic is blocked, none of these are reasonable actions to take as a result of a person being shot by police, but the MSM reports them as “protests”. The news will report that the person was unarmed or had their hands up, to provoke public outrage against the police. Often times the reporting is inaccurate and does not reflect the truth.

The MSM are pushing for gun control, billionaires such as Michael Bloomberg want the populace disarmed. Those on the left won’t admit they have created a climate of violence in the major cities they control. Poverty, ignorance, hopelessness, corruption, and drugs abound in Democratically controlled areas, if you point out these reasons for the violence, you will falsely be called a racist. They blame guns for the violence in America, coining the term “gun violence”, which is nonsensical to say an inanimate object is violent. Progressives use the media to further their gun control agenda, they do not believe you have the right to defend yourself.

A Somali immigrant went on a stabbing spree in the St. Cloud Minnesota mall, asking people if they were Muslim before attacking them. You can see more details about this attack and Jason Falconer, the concealed carrier, the good guy with a gun that stopped the attack on the website Bearing Arms. Many news headlines said that he was an officer or retired or off-duty that stopped this attack, ignoring the fact that he was a concealed carrier. While he had police work in his background, they failed to mention that he is an instructor who teaches citizens concealed carry and self defense skills. A concealed carrier successfully stopping an attack does not fit the MSM narrative of gun control.

American liberty is about more than the second amendment, it’s about the right of the people to think and speak what they please without being condemned for it. I encourage everyone to seek out independent news sources so they can obtain truthful information. Next time you see a headline, take a second to analyze it and think about how they are manipulating events to fit their destructive progressive agenda.

You can see parallels between “news” today and the yellow journalism of old. Keep your mind focused on facts and scrutinize articles that you read to evaluate their truthfulness. The only way for freedom and liberty to flourish is for the truth to be known. Continue concealed carrying LC style and stay safe everyone!

Security Professional On Terrorism

Terror

In light of recent events, I want to talk about the recent wave of terrorism in the world today.

I have eight years of experience in uniformed security including seven years in retail security and one year in hospital security at a facility that employed 1,400+ individuals. I also have two degrees in criminal justice and a certificate in homeland security that give me a unique insight into these terror events.

I will be sharing some advice regarding how you can protect yourself from these attacks from the perspective of a security professional and someone who has studied terrorism in detail. Continue reading “Security Professional On Terrorism”
